The Essay Contest gives students room to reflect, write with purpose, and share a personal view of the world around them.

Since the club's founding, the Optimist Club of Anchorage has used this annual contest to encourage creativity and help young people pursue scholarship opportunities.

Under age 19 on October 1 of the contest year. There is no minimum age.

Contestants must not yet have completed secondary school or its equivalent.

03Location

Students enter through the Optimist district where they reside.

Step 01

Review the official application

Read the current topic, rules, and entry requirements for the active contest cycle.

Step 02

Write your original essay

Respond directly to the annual topic with a clear point of view and your own voice.

Step 03

Complete the entry form

Provide every requested detail and obtain any signatures required by the application.

Email the complete entry

Send the essay and application to the Anchorage scholarship team before the posted deadline.

Who can enter the Essay Contest?

Contestants must be under age 19 on October 1 of the current Optimist International contest year and must not yet have completed secondary school or its equivalent. Eligible CEGEP students in Quebec are included.

Is there a minimum age?

No. The published rules state that there is no minimum age, provided the contestant meets the other education and residency requirements.

Where should a student enter?

Students must enter in the Optimist district where they reside. Anchorage-area students should confirm local eligibility with the club before preparing a submission.

What about students on military installations?

U.S. students attending school on military installations outside the United States are eligible to enter in their last home of record.

When will the next topic and deadline be available?
